WALKING AND CYCLING
If you want to get away from it all and enjoy some walking or cycling, then The Angel Inn can provide you with the perfect base. Located in Northumberland, England's most rural county you'll be surrounded by wonderfully diverse and picturesque scenery. With historic castles, a beautiful remote coastline, pretty little villages along with rivers and forests to explore, Northumberland provides no end of opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast.
For the beginner, a gentle stroll from The Angel Inn around Corbridge is a great place to start with the town's history dating back to Roman times and location right on the river Tyne. For something a little more challenging, how about navigating the river for 5 miles as it makes its way to the market town of Hexham, following the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail or completing the circular walk from Corbridge that takes in Aydon Castle? Country Walking Magazine voted Northumberland "the best place for walking in the country' so there really is no shortage of opportunities to get out into the fresh air!
For cyclists, how about trying one of the several well established routes including the famous Coast and Castles or Hadrian's Wall cycle routes? With Hadrian's Wall so close, there are several opportunities to cycle to a variety of stunning historic Roman sites all in one day. For those that are riding the famous C2C cycle route that spans the whole width of the country, The Angel Inn makes a great place to stop off for either refreshment or an over night stay, or allows an opportunity to cycle part of the route through Northumberland or the 20 miles along the Tyne to Newcastle's buzzing quayside.
National Route 72 of the national cycle network is also called "Hadrian's Cycleway". Much of this route is extreamly close to Hadrian's wall and passes through Corbridge and The Angel.
