Working at the Angel

When there are so many shops, pubs, restaurants, bars, cafes, supermarkets, and hotels with a ten-mile radius, why on earth would you want to work at the Angel?

The Angel has always had a great reputation for food, foodservice and standards. We certainly are the best in Corbridge.

If you work in front of house, you will quickly become confident serving guests, taking room bookings and table reservations, serving drinks, having food knowledge, housekeeping skills and coffee making skills.

If you are in our kitchen, you will quickly make bread, all puddings, filleting fish, sausage making, butchering lamb, and preparing game.

We also think we have a lot more benefits too…

We are now recruiting for Chefs, a Housekeeping Attendant, Front of House Staff, and a Bar Supervisor. If you would like to apply, please email and we promise to be in touch. Please don’t apply through Facebook.

4 or 5 Day Week

If you are looking for a full-time position, then we would be happy to offer you (pro-rata) a choice of a four- or five-day working week if you, for example, have other commitments away from the Angel.
This may be ideal for a chef or supervisory role and, we would happily discuss these arrangements with you.

Good Rates of Pay

For our front of house, kitchen porters, chippy team, bar staff and housekeeping we pay better than most. We pay more than the national living wage so that we can attract the best, you can enjoy working with the best, and more importantly, our guest pays for and receives the best in guest care.
As part of the management and kitchen team, you will receive a competitive salary but with many more benefits than our competitors.
All cash and credit card tips are shared and given to the staff. None are kept by the business.

Guest Care Experience

As long as we’re working, then we will always have customers or guests. The Angel gives us all a great foundation to understand, recognise and exceed guests’ expectations in a very busy and demanding environment.
If you take our visions and hospitality and apply them to your new role, we guarantee you will excel in whatever it is that you have chosen to do. Rightly so, our guests and visitors are demanding, and we work extremely hard (as a team) to ensure that we prepare and exceed that guest experience time and time again and, when we get it wrong, then we work even harder to put it right.
If that is a stop-gap, then that is fine, you will get the best from us and I am sure that we will get the best from you too.

Possibly the most important reason for working anywhere, not just at the Angel.
We are independently owned and financially sound. We enjoy success during the spring and summer months and maintain a loyal following during the autumn and winter.
What you need to know is that we are here to stay, and we pay you exactly what you have earned and what you are due at the end of each month along with your share of the tips (all gratuities are shared).
We will issue you a contract of employment, and we do not expect you to work (over an average of 12 weeks) more than 48 hours per week.
You will receive 20 days holiday as well as bank and public holiday entitlements too.

Training & Development

Regardless of your plans, we are committed to training and developing you and these are our promises:

A trial shift to see if you like us and vice versa.
A thorough induction so that you feel comfortable and confident.
A weekly training matrix
External coffee skills (Barista) training
External food hygiene certificate
External (on-site) fire marshal training
Various cultural visits e.g. gin distillery, local brewery, foraging, farm visits, coffee roastery etc.
Annual appraisals

As part of a team with a vision of hospitality, we value the role that everyone has to play, and we will tell you that and reward you if you go the extra mile.
Without kitchen porters, we will not have clean plates for our guests nor a clean kitchen nor our continued 5-star food safety rating. Without housekeepers, we cannot possibly achieve £120 per night for a bedroom, and without everyone else then the business simply would not survive.
Most importantly, we talk nicely to each other, communicate well and welcome your feedback to make the Angel a better place to work and a better place to visit.

Other Benefits

1. When dining with family, we will roll out the red carpet and look after you as we do with each and every guest, however, you will receive 50% off your food bill.
2. If you need tickets for a Newcastle Falcons game, then we can get them for you at a discounted price, and your first 2 are free with our Chairman’s compliments.
3. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks are all complimentary during service.
4. We offer a superb staff meal to those on duty including pizza, fish and chips, curry and rice etc.
5. We get Christmas Day off; possibly the biggest benefit of working at the Angel and in hospitality so that you can spend the day with your family.
